I’m over the moon and back to announce a save-the-date for “Poetry in Unexpected People”. Sunday, November 9th, 6:30 PM, at South Oxford Space in Fort Greene (138 S. Oxford).
It will be a FREE Brooklyn community event. My co-curators, Jon Sands, Samantha Thornhill, and I worked with a camera crew to record stories from six incredible Brooklynites around our theme “Unexpected Acts of Kindness in Brooklyn.”
At the event on 11/9, we will screen these breathtaking videos, and each will be followed by a new poem in response to that story. Our astounding line-up of responding authors creating new work are Aracelis Girmay, Jive Poetic, Cheryl Boyce-Taylor, Adam Falkner, Aziza Barnes, & Soré Agbaje!! A Brooklyn literary game of telephone that encompasses one of the greatest mysteries our complicated and beautiful world has to offer: KINDNESS.
Our storytellers will be in the house as well, for what promises, preemptively, to be one of the most heart-building nights of story, music, and poetry ever. You cannot miss it. You will not want to miss it. These are the stories that support our being alive!
Going. For sure! Some of my favorite people are reading!
